Common questions
Where is my data stored?
On your device only. Acro uses SwiftData with no cloud sync. Reinstalling the app or device-reset deletes everything.
Can I back up my data?
Not yet. v1.x will add an export-to-JSON option. For now, photos live in the app sandbox and aren't accessible via Files.
Why does the app ask for photo library access?
Only when you tap "Add photo". Acro uses PhotosPicker, which runs out-of-process and only sees the photos you explicitly select.
Notifications aren't arriving — what now?
Settings → Notifications → Acro must be allowed. If you toggled the daily reminder on but iOS denied permission, the toggle resets — re-enable it after granting permission in iOS Settings.
Are the treatment protocols safe?
They're hobbyist references compiled from public reefkeeping sources. Always verify dosing with the product label. Some compounds (fluconazole, levamisole, imidacloprid dips) are hazardous if misused. See Terms of Use for the full disclaimer.
iPad vs iPhone — which is better?
On iPad: 3-pane split view with full timeline + chart simultaneously. On iPhone: same data via stacked navigation. Same features, different layouts — pick whichever you actually carry to the tank.
What iOS version do I need?
iOS / iPadOS 17.0 or later.
"Database couldn't be opened" recovery
If you see this banner on launch, the on-disk database failed to open (most often after a schema migration). The app falls back to a temporary in-memory store — anything you add in this state will be lost on quit.
Recovery steps:
- Quit the app completely.
- Update to the latest version from the App Store.
- If the banner persists, delete and reinstall — this loses local data but restores a working database.
