Frequently asked questions
Is LumaCard free?
Yes. v1.0 is free with no advertising and no in-app purchases. We may add optional content packs in future versions; the existing free content will stay free.
Does it work offline?
Yes — everything works without a network connection. All audio, character data, and vocabulary cards are bundled inside the app.
What languages does it support?
The app's interface is available in Traditional Chinese (zh-Hant) and English (en). The learning content covers three languages side-by-side:
- Chinese: Zhuyin (注音 ㄅㄆㄇㄈ) tracing + Mandarin vocabulary with native audio.
- English: Latin ABCs (upper + lower case) tracing + English vocabulary with native audio.
- Japanese: hiragana + katakana tracing + Japanese vocabulary with native audio.
Japanese UI translation is planned for v1.1.
What age range is LumaCard for?
Designed for ages 4–9. Younger kids will enjoy the tracing and stickers; older kids will move on to vocabulary cards and word puzzles.
Can multiple children share one device?
Yes. Tap the profile chip on the home screen to add a new learner. Each child has their own progress, sticker collection, and Leitner review schedule.
How do I reset my child's progress?
Settings → Reset Progress. You can reset a single deck (e.g. just the Zhuyin tracing) or reset all vocabulary progress. Profiles themselves are managed under Settings → Profiles.
Why is there a math problem when I tap a link in Settings?
That's the parent-verification gate. Apple's "Made for Kids" guidelines require a simple gate before any link that leaves the app (privacy policy, contact email). It protects your child from accidentally tapping out. Adults solve it in two seconds; small kids generally can't yet.
How do daily reminders work?
If you opt in (Settings → Notifications), LumaCard schedules a single local reminder at the time you pick. There's no push server involved — everything is on-device. Disable any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → LumaCard.
I think there's a bug. What should I include in the email?
Helpful details:
- Your iOS version (Settings → General → About → iOS Version)
- Device model (e.g. "iPhone 15", "iPad Air M3")
- What you were doing when it happened
- Whether it's reproducible or one-time
- A screenshot or screen recording if you can
Will there be new content?
Yes. The current 600 vocab cards and 181 traceable characters are v1.0. We're already planning more themes for v1.1+. Email us if there's a specific topic your child wants — we read every request.
Where can I read the privacy policy?
Right here. TL;DR: we collect nothing.
